How Hard is Getting a Job in the Wind Sector?

by admin on June 26, 2009

Are you looking for a new job? Are you an eco-friendly person? Do you want to be a part of a new energy revolution?

If you have answered ‘yes’ to the above questions, you are the perfect candidate for a job in the wind sector. Finding the right wind training program in order to obtain a wind technician certification is not that hard, especially since many community colleges in North Dakota and other states have started intensive wind training programs. The demand for wind energy technicians is so high, that students are picked up by companies only months after graduating the wind training courses.

Your job as a wind technician is to maintain and repair the giant wind turbines while keeping the environment clean and safe from all the pollution. According to the American Wind Energy Association, there are approximately 25,000 wind turbines currently functioning in the US, with nowhere enough professionals to maintain them adequately.
However, working as a wind turbine technician is not a job for the faint-of-heart. With tasks that require exceptional mechanical and electrical skills and the thought of working at about 300 feet in the air, a wind technician position is only for dedicated people.

Some of the topics that are usually studied during the wind training curses include:
Wind energy basics;
Energy production estimates, wind measurement and instrumentation;
How to calculate power and energy delivered by wind turbine
Wind applications, systems, locations
Specific measurements: air density/power density, site survey techniques and instruments, etc.

Seeing what wind training is all about may make this decision easier. Whether you are looking for a career shift or you are looking for a first stable job, wind programs are an excellent choice. After all, what better way to earn a great salary, do something exciting and make a better world for our children?
